Exposição de ilustração – 38 obras de Ilda David realizadas em 2012 e que integram a edição do livro “Amor de Perdição” de Camilo Castelo Branco, da editora Sistema Solar, no ano 2012.

Um romance histórico e marcante da literatura portuguesa, Amor de Perdição, trazido à luz pela pena de Camilo Castelo Branco, narra um amor impossível que culmina em tragédia. Simão Botelho e Teresa Albuquerque são impedidos de viver plenamente o amor que nutrem um pelo outro. Os esforços que empreendem para partilhar uma vida comum colidem com as convenções sociais e familiares, conduzindo-os ao sofrimento e à rutura, num desfecho marcado pela fatalidade.

Uma vez lida a obra, voltamos a ela quer pela releitura, quer por vias mais amplas, com diferentes interpretações ou adaptações. No campo do cinema, os filmes de António Lopes Ribeiro (1943) e de Manoel de Oliveira (1978) são exemplos disso, pela expansão que nos dão ao universo do romance. Estas releituras estimulam a sensibilidade, permitindo-nos percorrer as linhas que alimentam a imaginação e despertam a compreensão de um mundo que contempla a nossa existência.

Ilda David leu e releu Amor de Perdição, e dessa releitura irrompeu um ímpeto criativo através de uma série de ilustrações que revivificam o romance e despertam a vontade de a ele regressar. Um trabalho que se serve da pintura para revelar um espectro de seres e espaços, não com o intuito de representar ou fixar personagens ou passagens específicas, mas de complementar as múltiplas leituras que cada um poderá fazer desta obra literária.

Love of Perdition
Exhibition – 38 works by Ilda David created in 2012 and included in the edition of the book “Love of Perdition” by Camilo Castelo Branco, published by Sistema Solar, in 2012. A landmark historical novel in Portuguese literature, Love of Perdition, brought to light by Camilo Castelo Branco, tells the story of an impossible love that culminates in tragedy. Simão Botelho and Teresa Albuquerque are prevented from fully experiencing their love for each other. Their efforts to share a common life clash with social and family conventions, leading to suffering and separation, in an outcome marked by fate. Once read, we return to it, either through rereading or through broader avenues, with different interpretations or adaptations. In the field of cinema, the films of António Lopes Ribeiro (1943) and Manoel de Oliveira (1978) are examples of this, for the expansion they provide us with of the novel's universe. These rereadings stimulate sensitivity, allowing us to explore the paths that fuel the imagination and awaken an understanding of a world that contemplates our existence. Ilda David read and reread "Love of Perdition," and from this rereading a creative impulse erupted through a series of illustrations that revive the novel and awaken the desire to return to it. This work uses painting to reveal a spectrum of beings and spaces, not to represent or fix specific characters or passages, but to complement the multiple readings that each person can make of this literary work.
